KASCHIERT/KASCHIEREN

Bobbin lace doilies, epoxy resin, pins, safety pins, wire, 3-channel sound system
2023

Bobbin lace doilies were hardened with resin to create individual shapes. Loudspeakers are installed under three objects, from which different sounds come, superimposed on each other. These are, firstly, whip lashes, which have the same rhythm as a second beat and are thus reminiscent of the ticking of a clock, secondly, the cutting of the air of the whip and thirdly, isolated, somewhat distorted whip lashes. Some of the objects were pinned into the floor with very long pins. The pins refer to the method of making lace, in which the unfinished lace coverlet is pinned to the lace bag so that the pattern underneath does not slip, the threads remain in their knotted form and the lace maker is given guidance as to where he/she is at any given moment.

Erblast

Cloth handkerchiefs, epoxy resin, stopmotion film 1:58 min
240 x 240 cm
2023

Cloth handkerchiefs were sewn together and hardened with epoxy resin, giving them the shape of a large, falling handkerchief. A stop-motion film with sound is projected onto it. The film shows sewn scenes like a mobile that has become unbalanced, seams that sew themselves into words and then dissolve again, and holes that are torn into the background and then sewn shut again. In this work I deal with the question of how the absence of words or the inability to speak about things, especially about traumas, first implants itself in biographies and then continues in the following generations. There is a publication for the work, partly silkscreen, partly digital print with a slide, which also consists of a handkerchief hardened and embroidered with epoxy resin.

HUNT!

embroidered and knitted yarn, nails
140 cm × 180 cm
2022

Knitted yarn embroidered with the word HUNT forms the work as an object nailed to the wall with nails, in which I explore the connection between hunting and knitting: hunting  ̵̶̶̶ a job attributed (albeit refuted) mainly to men, and knitting, a job categorised as classically feminine. Thus both activities are found in the hobby. However, while the profession of hunting is still a necessity, knitting has been completely freed from its necessity by the invention of machines. The craft of knitting is often passed down from previous generations because, unlike hunting, it is not an artisanal profession. Through the dimension of the object, the stretching of the stitches just before they are torn, I would like to remind you of the beauty and fragility of this craft, because a single stitch that goes astray can unravel the whole object.
